Siliceous scaling aspects of geothermal power generation using binary cycle heat recovery

چکیده

Siliceous scaling potential of geothermal brines has long been an obstacle to the efficient energy recovery from some geothermal resources. In classical flash geosteam plant the brine for disposal was separated at high enough temperature in order to avoid ((silica oversaturation)) which might lead to scaling on hiher cooling for additional power generation through heat recovery. Recent years binary cycle heat recovery experience involved cases of brine cooling leading to ((silica oversaturation)) which did not cause extensive fouling in the heat exchanger part of the plant. Some case histories of such successful applications are presented. Kinetics of siliceous precipitation, being overlooked in the past, is nowadays tackled through various design andor operation approaches in order to keep fouling within acceptable limits.

Modeling of a Geothermal Cycle Condenser in a Combined Diesel Power Cycle: Case Study of 42 MW Diesel Power Plant in Moghan and Ardabil

This paper presents the results of a research into the feasibility of recovering waste heat and determining design parameters of a recovery boiler for a set of medium-speed diesel generators with a capacity of 7 MW (the nominal capacity of all units is 42 MW, which would be a study on a unit). And is used to generate electricity. The main purpose of this study is to design a thermal waste recov...

Parametric Assessment of a Novel Geothermal Multi-Generation Equipped with Dual-Organic Rankine Liquefied Natural Gas Regasification Cycle Using Advanced Exergy and Exergoeconomic-Based Analyses

This research is concerned with the design and analysis of a geothermal based multi-generation system by applying both conventional and advanced exergy and exergoeconomic concepts. The proposed energy system consists of a dual-organic Rankine cycle (ORC) to vaporize liquefied natural gas (LNG) and produce electricity. A proton exchange membrane(PEM) electrolyzer is employed to produce hydrogen ...

Exergy Analysis of a Novel Combined System Consisting of a Gas Turbine, an Organic Rankine Cycle and an Absorption Chiller to Produce Power, Heat and Cold

The current work investigates the exergy analysis of a new system to generate power, heat, and refrigeration. In the proposed system, the heat loss of a gas turbine (GT) is first recovered by a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSD), then by an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) to generate warm water and additional power, respectively. In the ORC, reheating is used to increase the output power, the req...

Improvement of Efficiency of Coal-Fired Steam Power Plant by Reducing Heat Rejection Temperature at Condenser Using Kalina Cycle

This paper proposes an approach for improving the plant efficiency by reducing the heat rejection temperature of power cycle using Kalina Cycle System 11 (KCS11) which is integrated at the steam condenser of a 500 MWe SubC (subcritical) coal-fired power plant. It is modelled by using power plant simulation software ‘Cycle Tempo’ at different plant operating conditions. Results show t...

Geothermal energy from abandoned oil and gas wells using water in combination with a closed wellbore

Binary cycle power plants have been used successfully for electricity generation utilizing co-produced fluids from active onshore oil wells. Adapting this process for use on abandoned wells by circulating the binary working fluid down the wellbore has been previously proposed and a selection of fluids evaluated. This work proposes and evaluates an approach using water as the wellbore fluid in c...
